In 2008 our medical clinic treated over 7,000 Mayan Chorti Indians in Honduras, and our ambulance chapters ran over 5,000 emergency calls in both Guatemala and Honduras. We transported 6ambulances to Honduras and Guatemala, and over $900,000 worth of donated medical supplies and related equipment. PFC was still able to meet our commitment to the 44 children at Happy Angels orphanage keeping them in milk, toys, clothing, shoes, and a wonderful Christmas Party. Thousands were spent to help hundreds with family emergency funding, and many human lives were saved. In addition to this we successfully supplied 1,600 children in 24 mountain schools with over 14,000 note books, pencils, and other related school supplies, and distributed 30,000 doses of vitamins to 400 children. During 2008 we also hosted 22 volunteers who visited and worked with us. Our goal of constructing a 250 foot stone security wall around the clinic was also reached in the summer of 2008.
Our total donation income for 2008 was $79,270.63. Based on the total numbers of people (14,044) we either saved, fed, clothed, medically treated, or educated ( it works out to only $5.64 per person per year! The bottom line is that PFC has done a wonderful job of squeezing as much good out of every dollar as I had ever thought possible, and this accomplishment is due primarily to our wonderful volunteers, and contributors. However, with today's economic outlook, we are bracing for low donations and PFC will not be able to continue into 2009 without strong donation efforts from our friends, and supporters, so please be aware that we are still in need of your ideas, support and guidance. The cause is good, the approach is effective, and the value of the good done, and lives saved, is incalculable. I will be leaving for Guatemala and Honduras the first week of February. I hope that I will be able to attend a club function before that date. The first mission of mountain school supply trips are scheduled from February 22 - March 1, 2009. No medical experience is required (just a passport) and everybody is invited. See our web site for details In closing I wish all of you a happy new year in 2009. Sincerely, Rodger Harrison President Paramedics For Children www.paramedicsforchildren.org 704-763-2585
